THAT LITTLE OL’ BAND FROM TEXAS
known for classic rock and its Texas
heritage, consists of a trio of bearded, haggard looking, reclusive mystique
musicians and their hard-nosed business tactics. Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard have been making music together since 1969.
Bill Mack Ham is the band’s manager.
The trio spent their first years playing mostly regional concerts. Their first
album was cut in 1970. ZZ Top’s third album, in 1973: Tres Hombres won
National attention. One song on the album “LaGrange” is still the band’s
signature riff tune. Also included was “Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers”
the band’s would-be anthem.
Until MTV came along in the 80’s, ZZ Top had declined all TV appearances.
The addition of videos took the band’s famous mystique and popularity to an
all-time high. The group’s 8th album “Afterburner” with its continued use of
synthesizers, became a world-wide smash hit. In 1999, their album, “XXX”
celebrated the band’s 30th anniversary; they were the only rock group with its
original members after 3 decades. See & hear ZZ Top on Sunday, March 22,
2009 at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo at Reliant Park.
