The Marshall Tucker Band was formed in 1972, at Spartanburg, Texas. The
guys rehearsed in an old warehouse and were trying to figure out what to name their band. The warehouse key tag read: “Marshall Tucker” so they decided on that for the band’s name. They did not realize that it was a real person’s name. A few years later, they found out that name belonged to a blind piano tuner who had used the warehouse before them. By that time, they liked their band name and were already used to it, and so the rest is
History.

Some original members have died, and others have retired. Tommy Caldwell
died from auto accident injuries in 1980. Toy Caldwell passed away in 1993 from heart problems. George McCorkle passed away in 2006. Paul Riddle
still lives in Spartanburg and teaches drums in his private studio. Jerry
Eubanks retired in 1996 to spend more time with family and still resides in
his native Spartanburg. Franklin Wilkie has a recording studio in
Spartanburg and records many of the fine young bands as well as veteran
rockers.
