George Strait, native Texan, working cowboy, singer/songwriter,
and Academy of Country Music Artist of the Decade. Accolades
just seem to come naturally to this talented troubadour. Every song
he has recorded has been a mega-hit. There are no misses with him.
George Strait was headliner for the last Houston Livestock Show &
Rodeo ever held in the famous Houston Astrodome. The Dome is
legendary and George is a living legend. How fitting that he should
close out the Dome.
George has been honored as CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1989
and ACM Entertainer of the Year in 1990, and is a member of the
Country Music Hall of Fame. As of 2008, he holds the record for
the most Number One Hits on Billboard charts with a total of 56
Number One hits overall. George Strait has 38 hit albums, and he
ranks only behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles. He has 12 multi-
platinum, 22 platinum and four gold albums.
In October, 2006, George marked his 30th year in the music industry.
His newest album, Troubadour, was released in April 2008.
George served his country in the army, and was honorably discharged
in 1975. He returned to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos
and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Agriculture. While attending
SWT, he joined the Ace in the Hole Band and the rest is history.
We love you, George.
