Gene was born one of seven children in Palestine, Texas in 1943. He married
early and moved to Houston, Texas. He always had two-loves: working on
cars by day and singing soulful country ballads in the clubs at night. He has
had a string of national hits : Love In the Hot Afternoon, Paper Rosie, Farewell
Party, Should I Come Home or Should I Go Crazy, Nothing Sure Looked Good
On You, Fourteen Carat Mind & More.
Gene Watson's national success continued throughout the late 70's and
early 80's. In 2007, Gene began work on a new album and he included new material, along with some of his favorite classic country tunes such as Merle Haggard's Today I Started Loving You Again, a duet he did with Lee Ann Womack. Other artists featured on the album are Vince Gill, Mark Chestnutt, RhondaVincent, Connie Smith and Joe Nichols. The album: In A Perfect World
won critical acclaim.
Gene Watson's face graced the cover of Zest Mag of the Houston Chronicle on
Sunday, August 23, 2009. His story, by Andrew Dansby says Gene still lives
with his family in Houston. His love of working on classic cars is what he
does when he is home from his tours. He plays more than 150 concerts a year on the road. His legendary golden voice has not shown any sign of letting up and
going away, and his legions of fans hope to see and hear him and the Farewell Party Band at every chance and every dance.
